*Ensure there is active support by the Head of the organisation
*Ensure the manager invests time in the development of the individual and that there is opportunity for collaboration
*Select growth goals
*Focus on 1-3 goals at a time to avoid goal diffusion
*Follow-up and give lots of feedback on progress
